ABOUT
Ashten has enjoyed a career as a voice teacher and music director for many years. A native of Southern California, Ashten received her BA in Music from California State University, Bakersfield and her MM in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. While experienced with classroom music education at the high school and college level, her specialty lies in one-on-one pop and musical theater vocal instruction. In the past, she served as the Resident Director of Music for The Spotlight Theater in Bakersfield overseeing all main-stage productions while also managing The Spotlight School of the Arts. Some of the singers she has worked with can be seen in various Bay Area events like Hardly Strictly Bluegrass or have been featured at The Independent. Ashten is also affiliated with the Pan-American Vocology Association, an international organization dedicated to the latest research developments in voice science.
AS A VOCALIST, ASHTEN’S PROFESSIONAL CAREER HAS TAKEN HER ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND THROUGHOUT ITALY. SHE HAS PERFORMED ALONGSIDE THE LIKES OF SIR THOMAS ALLEN, GRAHAM JOHNSON AND SUSANNE MENTZER. MOST RECENTLY, SHE WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE THE VOCALIST FOR THE PREMIERE OF TED HEARNE’S KATRINA BALLADS, FEATURING POLITICAL ACTIVIST, ANGELA DAVIS. ASHTEN IS CURRENTLY BASED IN SANTA BARBARA, CA
